This morning was quite hectic.

This morning was quite hectic. I woke up at 0330 to Troop 805 packing up their stuff and getting ready for the storm that was 20 minutes out. We decided to wait out the storm and didn’t get up until 0500. We started packing and got the kids into the bus at 0700. The adult leaders, several scouts, and I packed up the rest of the camp in the rain. We jumped on the bus and went over to Williamsburg village and toured. We saw the village and the gallows and the jail. We got back on the bus and headed to Busch Gardens. We rode the rides and had lunch and dinner there and left. We checked into the hotel and went to sleep.

I just have to mention something that made the trip that much better. Our bus driver, Roger is one of the best bus drivers I have ever seen. He has proved his excellence on many occasions. In Boston, Roger parallel parked the bus between a minivan and another bus. Roger also has made many turns onto small streets that seemed almost impossible. I give major props to him. Roger, you will be missed by all of us.

This is my last post and so I will be saying goodbye. I do have a website that you can check out (DJShayLA.com) that I post to every so often if you would like to read my work. On behalf of Andrew and me, it has been a pleasure living with your sons and grandsons and nephews and cousins for these three weeks. Thank you,

This morning was just like

This morning was just like any other morning. The only difference is that the scouts are getting up by themselves. For instance, Will asked me for a wakeup call at 0630. When I woke up at 0515 and got dressed and got out of my tent to wake him, he was already up. This is one of the examples that I have seen that shows me that these scouts are becoming more self sufficient and more mature. Some of the scouts still need some help with waking up and staying on task but most of them are doing well. There have been instances in other troops of scouts getting in huge fights. This is understandable because of the fact that we are on week 3 and some of the guys could be getting sick of each other. The surprising thing is that nothing huge has happened in our troop. There have been minor disputes and battles in our patrols, but they have been resolved and there is no resentment between the boys. This is very rare and I am proud to be a part of this troop.

Today we are finishing up our last bits of work before we have to be back at camp at 1300 to start packing. We counted and found that we had completed 96 merit badges as a troop. Ross, Nick, and Austin led the charts with 4 merit badges total earned at Jambo. Ross went out with several other scouts to finish up the partial merit badges that they had. Sir Link hoped that we would reach at least 100 merit badges this Jamboree. With scouts like Ross and Nick and Austin, his dream will be fulfilled.

I do not have a picture with all the scouts in front because I had to be in the picture. Those pictures are on other people’s cameras and I am in the process of getting those pictures.

This morning was different. I

This morning was different. I woke the quartermasters at 0630 and sent them off to get breakfast. Other scouts woke up and got up on their own and I sent them to wake up the camp at 0700. I found that using multiple scouts to wake up the camp is more efficient than going around by myself. We had a breakfast of Pop Tarts and cereal. This was our last “free” day so the scouts went out to do anything they wanted. Every scout in the troop has completed all possible rockers as of right now. Jordan, David, Christian, and I went to Merit Badge Midway and completed a few merit badges. We saw several other scouts including Sean, Ross, Nick, Austin, Mark Riemers, Milan, Brian Rose, Alex, and others. Ross Chase led the charts again today with the most merit badges earned. We came back to camp and got ready for dinner and ate the beef stew. We had a meeting at 2130 with 805 and 804 to complete the Mysterium Compass Rocker.
Just a note to parents, there is an Army and National Guard booth here. Don’t be surprised if your scout brings home tons of Army and National Guard shwag (free stuff).

This morning was difficult in

This morning was difficult in the fact that most of the scouts only got about six to seven hours of sleep. We finished the show and walked back to camp and got back at about midnight. Most of the scouts collapsed on their cots and fell asleep. I woke them up at 0645 and we ate eggs and English muffins and ham. We headed off to our worship services. Most of the troop went to the nondenominational service but I went with seven other scouts to the Catholic service. After the service, everyone got lunch and went back to camp. Today has been pretty laid back so far. I haven’t done anything but go to church and work on the blog today. As a matter of fact, I am currently sitting in the Program tent, right next to Sub Camp 8 Headquarters. Tonight should be pretty laid back and then we will sleep and get up tomorrow.

Monday will be our only day to get things done because we will be going to two events as a troop on Tuesday that are several hours each. Then we will be packing up the campsite and sleeping under the stars.
